Tier 2 Reading/Math Intervention

As a Tier 2 reading/math interventionist, I have worked with striving learners in kindergarten through fifth grade. My role is to provide supplemental small group instruction that reinforces the skills and strategies that are being taught in the classroom as well as providing instruction that aims to fill any existing educational gaps. Interventions for small group instruction are carefully planned and driven by various assessment measures such as 4Sight, easyCBM universal screening and progress monitoring, Journeys reading assessments, and MyMath math assessments. During my time with students, I strive not only to advance the academic progress of each student, but also to help each student to develop a growth mindset in order to become a motivated, confident, and ambitious young citizen.

Part of my current role also includes encouraging differentiated instruction in alignment with the district's Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. I routinely collaborate with other educators to discuss the best way to support student learning at each of the three tiers within the MTSS framework. At the start of the 2015-2016 school year, I was able to create and deliver a presentation on differentiation in order to strengthen our school's Tier 1instructional practices. My presentation is attached below.

Another aspect of my current role allows me to partner with parents/guardians. In order to enhance communication between home and school, I have created a brochure to explain the MTSS framework and reiterate the key role that parents/guardians play in their child's education.
